Why do you use prong training collars when training large breed dogs?
Large breed dogs are strong enough to drag you, or, knock you over if you are holding the leash. So for safety and training, there has to be a direct communication piece between the dog’s collar and the leash holder. So hence there is the Prong Training Collar. The prong training collar has snubbed ends that give a pressure tap to the dog when they are pulling too hard. They respond by slowing down, or getting back in step with you to lessen the pressure.
If you do not have a flexible training collar system like this on your dog, hard pulling on inflexible collars can damage their neck.
Prong Training Collars vary in price, and you can get different versions of them. You can buy links to go with them, so you can build the collar larger and smaller. You can also get quick release gadgets to go on them. You can also get snap closure adjustable collar sections. This way you can build the collar bigger as the dog grows. Then at the end of training you have about half regular collar and half links.
Here is one version of a Prong Training Collar to look at. You can get them on Amazon.
